OlIVIA GREY
Olivia tugged harshly at the leather belts that had been fastened around her backpack's handle in a strange loop. The buckles felt secure and steady, but she still gave them a few more tugs to be sure. She looked up from her kneel and scanned the city in the distance; she could hear its sounds and hums even from the forest.
With a disturbed huff, Olivia slung the backpack over her shoulder and headed deeper into the woods, until she couldn't hear the city anymore.
The sunlight speckled through the forest canopy, patterning the browning leaves underfoot with ribbons and tears of light. Quite pretty, but Olivia wasn't one for admiring. She took a few more steps and paused - hunching over as she felt her skin burst into scales, wings unfurl from her back and a tail rip from her lower spine.
She flexed her claws and shuffled the row of spines that dotted down her back, the spikes standing on end like a porcupine's quills. The dragon leant down and picked up the backpack by the belts, which had formed a handle big enough for her jaws.
Sniffing the air, Olivia turned on her heel and started towards a cluster of trees with thick roots; twisted and coiled like thick pythons with mossy eyes. Dropping the bag, the dragon began to dig scoops of hard earth with ease - eager to get to the smaller medicinal roots below.
A thrilling feeling would always be felt when you know you have narrowly avoided being caught. This was the case for both Cara and Mia, the twin dragon sisters, when it comes to their guardian. Both of them were feeling mischievous this day that they hatched a plan to actually steal a Ming dynasty porcelain vase from a local store somewhere in town. Their guardian, an old aging dragon, warned them to not push through with their schemes and made them promise. Of course, Cara and Mia even crossed their hearts to show him that they will not do such an act, but behind their backs, their fingers were crossed. Numerous times, they tricked to the poor old soul and pushed through with their plans.
Cara and Mia were devious little thieves and in the end, Mia had the vase tucked safely within her oversized hoodie jacket with Cara looking out for her as they made their way towards the forest. The twins giggled gleefully as the younger of the two pulled out the precious treasure from within her coat and held it up high towards the sun.
“Cara, look, look! Look how beautiful it is!”
“Uwaah, it’s really pretty! I love it!”
Indeed, the vase had a very high price tag on it and many art collectors would die just to have it. To think these two tricksters were able to steal it under the nose of the shop owner; such crime meant nothing to two seemingly innocent little girls. They headed their way to the place where they hid all their secret stash, a place where no one, human or supernatural has been to. These girls were careful enough to hide their loot from the world; these dragons were possessive of their hoard after all.
The older of the twins, Cara, took the vase from Mia and was closely inspecting the smooth blue and white surface of the vase, awed by the intricate designs that was said to tell a story through pictures. She was too focused on the vase that she did not notice that her sister had halted in her steps, causing her to collide with Mia’s back. How lucky that she did not drop the priceless vase.
“Hey! You almost made me drop the vase! What’s the hold up?”
Mia stood motionless and it was clear that she was frozen on the spot with fear. She was looking at something in front of her and when it was Cara’s turn to see it, she too froze in place, her grip on the vase tightening as they stared at the huge green dragon right before them. Never had they experienced crossing paths with another dragon other than their guardian and this was the first time they encountered someone in their true form. Remembering how fierce their kind was when in dragon forms, the twins knew that they could be in serious trouble.
Olivia's ears pricked as she heard footsteps and chatter but continued to churn up the earth with her claws. People wandering in the woods wasn't a rare occurrence and everyone knew of supernatural beings - no worries. If someone got to close, she could always hiss at them.
Thinking the voices would just go away, Olivia jumped when she heard a thud and indignant complaint behind her. Turning her head, she glanced at the disturbances. Two young girls. She snorted and turned back to digging, deciding to ignore the duo.
Until she caught their scent. Dragon. A brief flash back of the attack that left her with a scar caused her hackles to rise and Olivia whipped around to face the two; her body curled like an angry viper, unsheathed claws leaving gouges in the roots she had unearthed.
The spines along her back rattled together like a rainshaker but Olivia didn't hiss and instead snarled a question - as if she had caught the two trespassing rather than strolling through the woods.
"Who are you?"
Upon waiting for an answer, her gaze darted between the two; trying to figure out as much as possible. Black and yellow eyes? That means they're either venomous or electricity - unless the colour can't be trusted.
She hissed uncertainly; unable to figure out the main danger from the two.
Fear dominated the twins, the feeling of being helpless overwhelmed them once more as memories of their suffering in the hands of their lost time captors plagued their minds. They have not moved in their respective spots, afraid that if they did, the other dragon might lash out and attack them. They were aware of how touchy their kind can be when it comes to people who trespass their territory, especially if their hoard is around, so in their minds, there was a possibility that the girls had walked into dangerous area.
Once the green dragon showed some signs of aggression towards them, the spines rattling loudly and claws sprang out, the younger of the girls, Mia, screamed and stumbled back on her backside. Unlike her older sister, she was easily scared because of her trauma in the past. This was too terrifying for her and she was reminded of the men who physically and sexually abused her long before they came to this island. While Cara may have felt her pain and suffering, it was Mia who went through it all for real. The girl curled up into a tight ball of pink as she screamed and shielded herself with her arms.
Seeing that her twin sister had shrunken back in panic, Cara’s protective side kicked though there was still a tinge of fear in her. In a quick blink, the vase was laid by Mia’s side and Cara morphed into her dragon form. Her true form had a muscular black body with silver underbelly, claws and spikes along her back, two long metallic gray horns, black leathery wings, the same mismatched eyes and oddly enough, several scars all over the sleek black scales. Apparently, the marks she and her sister received in their human forms appear on their dragon forms as well; they were not as durable when it such fragile bodies.
Cara was smaller compared to the green dragon and looked even smaller as she stood there with her body almost tucked in tight. From where she was, she would be able to protect her scared sibling if ever the other creature were to lash out. She let out a weak cry as her belly almost touched the ground, as if almost pleading the other to give them a chance to explain, a sign of submission.
“We’re sorry if we… disturbed you. I… I’m Cara and my sister is Mia. Please don’t hurt my sister, she’s really scared.”

OlIVIA GREY
Olivia expected few things; a fight, another fight, maybe some screeching at each other. What she didn't expect was one of the two to scream like a child and comically fall on her arse. The pleas for mercy were just icing on top of the very perplexing cake. Weren't they here to attack her?
Despite her confusion, Olivia stopped rattling her spines threateningly but her claws stayed out - even if the girl was curled up in a ball, it could be a trap.
Her attention swung to the more stable twin that had shifted and her spines rattled once more - Olivia crouching low to brace herself for a pounce. When none came, she slowly straightened up; glaring with a slight head tilt down at the girl.
Black scales, scarred. Toxic and used to violence - a dangerous mix. Especially in the mind of a paranoid dragon. Focusing, Olivia felt the tree root beneath her foot start to writhe like a snake, ready to snag the other dragon if a fight broke out.
Hold on, that tucked up position had no advantage for offense. Olivia felt her confusion rise even further, pushing her paranoia into overdrive, even though her spines stopped their rattlesnake rumble.
Her scaled ears twitched and swiveled forward, out of the flattened angle they were. Was that a cry? Oh god, these two were hurting her mind. Olivia's claws slowly slid back into their sheaths. Even if it was a trap, she wasn't a monster and wouldn't attack two, clearly frightened, kids.
"Wait, y-you're not here to attack me? What?" Olivia's confusion echoed in her voice, mixed with a snarl and a soft rumble; a confusing mixture of aggression and passive nature which reflected her mood caused by the twin's statement.

Mia covered her face as she cried, the tears just kept on coming as the memories of abuse and violence came back to her like a wave battering the shore. Her walls of composure fell just as quickly as the fear continued to grip her heart, the child barely able to think straight as nightmares plagued her mind. She curled up on the ground, her frame tightly tucked as she wept and prayed for the monster to go away… or at least what she thought was a monster but instead just another scared dragon. Her past abusers left her traumatized and it was not something that can be pushed away so easily.
Her more stable twin, Cara, helplessly looked back at her sibling and went to the quivering girl. Her dragon form walking around and using her scaly body to shield her younger sister. Cara nudged her snout against Mia’s side and the weeping twin clutched her sister’s snout like a lifeline, crying upon the dragon and clinging to it like it was some teddy bear to be cuddled. A pained sound escaped Cara’s mouth as Mia gradually calmed down, as if being soothed by her sister’s presence there. However, the older of the two girls knew her sibling can still lose it anytime.
Once Mia was snuggled against her sibling’s shoulder, Cara turned back to the green dragon before them and spoke, “I’m sorry; we’re just here to…” The black dragon looked around for a moment until she saw the Ming vase they carried earlier. Pushing the item carefully along the grassy earth with her snout, the older twin wished to show the other dragon that they were just there to bring an item to their hideout.
“We’re just passing by to put this in our stash. We didn’t know there’s another dragon here; we didn’t mean to step in your territory.”
As soon as Cara finished her sentence, she turned back into her human form and aided Mia in standing up. The scared girl clung onto her sister tightly as Cara lightly patted her hooded head, soothing her and whispering calming words.
